Now these are a proper pair of work boots, or muck boots may be the more accurate term. No self-respecting farmer would be caught dead in a coral, or barnyard without them. A farmer's work/muck boots are a safe bastion against the muddy terrain, and piles of manure, as well as any sharp bits that may be hiding in all that muck. Now take a peek at what I use around my tidy little homestead.....
These are my California work/muck boots. Awesome aren't they? As you can see, they are quite worn and have seen better days. Obviously these aren't even boots at all, they are sandals. If I showed up sporting these on a real working farm I think I would get looks of quiet astonishment, disdain, and I might even get quite a few laughs. Not that I would even think of setting shabby sandal clad feet on a real farm, be it in Kansas, or even California.
That's because real hard working farms have copious amounts of manure and mud laying around, especially where the animals are, and particularly after a good rain. My California work/muck boots, eh, I mean sandals wouldn't stand a chance against those treacherous conditions, but they work quite well for my little suburban homestead. Even so, I finally came to the unavoidable conclusion that I need some new ones. Rather than get another pair of sandals, I decided to upgrade to these....

What do you think? Those who really know me, know that I HATE wearing shoes. I only wear them when I ABSOLUTELY have to....and I have to wear shoes when I enter the chicken coop. I like these, mostly because they are pink, and it's nice that they are size 11, which fit what my husband affectionately calls-Sasquatch patas (paws in Spanish). Most dealers only go as high as size 10.
Anyway, they have a nice comfy interior that is removable for cleaning, and they are waterproof and have great traction. The best part is that they are are sandal-like. Some day when I get a real farm with my beloved mini-Jersey cow, Nubian and dwarf Nigerian milk goats, and of course a large flock of chickens, then I'll upgrade to some serious muck boots. But for now, these will work great, and my tootsies will be warm, dry and even a bit stylish!
