The new girls were introduced to my dwindling original flock (only two original girls left) and they are very close to laying. But what's this I found in the coop one fine morning this week?
Two soft shelled eggs! It's time to switch from grower to layer.....I hope. They are a bit early, I wasn't expecting any eggs until next month. We'll see. So far I haven't gotten any more eggs, either soft shelled or viable eggs. Still, it's very exciting!
I originally had only 5 hens, so now that I have 10 full grown chickens, the original run is, well, a little small. There just wasn't much room for the girls to roam. I simply can't let them free range, and keep my garden in tact. So I took stock of my situation and then took action! It involved construction! Ack! But I got through it, thanks to my extremely patient husband, and I'm very happy with the result. Now my girls can stretch their wings, but without flying the coop! But there's more to come....
