An Introduction
Look! Aren't they adorable? These are a cross between Nigerian Dwarf goats and floppy eared Nubians. They are Mini Nubians!
For me, right now, a couple of mini milking goats are a far better choice than trying to acquire a 40 acre farm, and then a mini Jersey milk cow, which is my all time dream.
Now then, as with any animal, a responsible and wise person should read up on what is involved in the care of the particular animal they wish to raise BEFORE they buy it (at the least), and ideally actually have a proper home, bedding, feed/water, medical kit, and vet ready BEFORE the desired animal is purchased from a reputable breeder. I can't tell you how many stories that I've read through where people acquired these animals on a whim, and were ill prepared to care for them, only to cause themselves and their poor animals needless suffering. It DRIVES ME CRAZY to be honest!
And so, I will be blogging what I am learning about these frisky and frolicking little milk machines. Topics of learning that I will cover are:
- Breeds of choice (Mini Nubian, and Dwarf Nigerian)
- Native habitat
- Amount of area needed per goat
- Fencing
- Bedding
- Shelter
- Feeding/Water
- Breeding
- Milking
- Diseases
