Upon my first observation, I have NO IDEA why it has a straw in it. When I took it apart to investigate why it was leaking, I saw that the straw isn't open to the nipple. Hmmm. Very interesting. Not knowing how this leaky bottle worked, I simply removed the useless straw. Big mistake! The baby and I were immediately baptized with formula. Grrrr!!! I then reinserted the useless straw, because it was now obvious to me that it helped seal the nipple against the rim of the bottle. It STILL LEAKED!!! And that brings me to yet another irritation about this bottle -- all of the parts!
Parts Is PartsJust look at how many parts this leaky piece of junk has. Surely a baby bottle should be a more simple apparatus to operate than a M16 assault rifle! Do you know why they give you a pipe cleaner? That's because there are several little tiny nooks for milk to hide in and spoil. I haven't looked, but I suspect that Dr. Brown's a man. He has to be, because no woman in her right mind would have |

Colic. Fact or Fiction?
Gas is caused by two things, swallowing air, and the breakdown of food in the digestive tract. That's why we burp (upper G.I.) or fart (lower G.I). Babies are natural born burpers and farters, like my sons and husband. My readers with all male households like mine will know exactly what I mean! According to Dr. Chilton, a baby's sphincters are not very strong, so gas easily escapes either end. As for serious allergies, like lactose or other food sensitivities, those are best diagnosed by a real doctor, one that uses actual medical tests for allergens, not one that guesses based on symptoms alone. Do not rely on your frantic internet research based on common symptoms, or the person running a website selling vegan or goat milk formula, to diagnose your baby with lactose allergies. Again, I STRONGLY urge you to read Dr. Chilton's article on the myths of colic before you jump off the deep end and spend a great deal of money on breast milk, or formula substitutes, or even the fancy shmancy bottles with air gaps, release valves, or V8 dual overhead twincam suspensions.
Any Suggestions?
Lesson Learned
I hope I have shed some light onto some of the problems that you, dear reader, may have encountered with this bottle, which was specially designed for infants and children with serious medical issues like cleft palate. And I hope you've also learned about the real deal with "colic," so called, and I hope you pass it on. Pun intended.
