The table, which has two leaves, started out in a greenish pickled finish, but I had stained it cherry years ago. Now I had to sand that off to paint it a nice sage green. Hind sight is always 20/20, I should have just left it as is, but oh well. Usually you see the table top stained and the legs painted, but I did the opposite.
I used Behr Marquis and slapped on three coats. The paint is holding up well, all things considered, I mean, Kyle is very hard on this table, he uses it to do his modern art style marker drawings. It could use a sanding and refinish after almost three years. Yes, I started this project in September of 2015. It has taken me awhile to get around to posting this, but better late than never.
The chairs got a good sanding, and a few repairs were done. These have to last until I can pick up some more "freebees." form somewhere. Lord willing, I will be gifted some Hepplewhite chairs next time!
The center pattern was the original seat cover, the green chenille on the left is what I upholstered them in. This time, I chose two fabrics, a nice plaid and a floral in the trifecta of cheery Regency colors that I love; green, gold, and red.
Not seen here, I got some thick memory foam padding and placed some muslin on that, then stapled the muslin to the underside of the seat. Followed by cotton batting and the fabric. I put a center line down the middle so I could keep the fabric straight, very important when you have straight lines. | I notched the center of the material and matched it up with the center line, this way I won't have cockeyed stripes, that would have just driven me crazy! Pulling tight as I go, setting staples to secure the fabric. Thanks to my son for the use of his air compressor, it mades this job so much easier! |
The finished chairs...what a difference! I love it! Yes, they need some touch up too.
And the final result. Lighter and more French country, not exactly Craftsman, but that's okay. I like eclectic style. I also picked up a rug from Walmart to put underneath the dining set for an added touch of cozy. The red curtains, which I loved, were showing signs of dry rot from sun exposure, so they had to be replaced. I used the white lace for now, but I will be looking for something French country to put up instead, in my Regency color palate. But that will be another project for another day!
